On Tuesday 28 May at the Museo
Laboratorio di Arte Contemporanea, Paolo Monti’s Track Money. Where’s George?
exhibition will be inaugurated. This solo exhibition will present the latest
developments in the meta-project InfraTazebAu s'pace 2011. Information in
Revolution. C.G.B. An Epistemologically Propelled Satellite. R.F.I.D - Sindone
21’ 37”. (C.G.B. is the acronym of the Circle dedicated to the epistemologist
Gregory Bateson). The work was conceived for the microsatellite EduSat-G.A.U.S.S.
(Astrodynamic Group at “La Sapienza” University) and was launched into orbit
August 17th 2011 from the Space Centre at Yasny in Russia. As Chantal Cappelletti project coordinator recalls: «With the creation of this satellite
we wanted to unite science with art by installing on board Paolo Monti’s work
Sindone 21’ 37”, comprising a “bleached out” dollar deprived of its symbols
which was signed by all of us at Gauss and the artist himself. This work falls
into the most ample gamma of Monti’s work that aims at pauperizing money with an
aim to transform it from being a symbol of power to one of union». Monti’s
project emphasizes his production of creative and fleeting impulses on a
systemic horizon where comprehension of transformation and invariance is all yet
to be explored. Observation of the world interconnects the artist also beyond
the earth’s surroundings. His plan of action resides in a complex vision where
art is about an activity of research with cybernetic presuppositions in which
creative experience embraces an idea of evolutionism, both biologic and
anthropologic, and the outlines do not only delimit the aesthetic field but,
also, strongly question the ethic dimension in relation to the perceptive and
imaginative capacity. The satellite EduSat-Gauss was chosen by Monti as his
personal gallery, the first gallery in orbit, in homage to Lucio Fontana’s
spacialism. The exhibition is dedicated to the sky-walker Luca Parmitano who -
on May 28th, will leave on the space mission 'Volare' ISS36/37 of the Agenzia
Spaziale Italiana (ASI-NASA). At the exhibition it will be possible to trace the
orbital path of Monti’s Sindone 21’ 37” in real time.
